In the 92nd chapter of the Quran, the Surah Al-Laill, also known as Surah Wal Laili Iza Yaghsha (And the night when it envelops), discusses the topic of good and bad behaviour. It consists of 21 verses. It is one of the 10 Makki surahs revealed to the Prophet SAW.  In the same way, reciting this Surah has several unique benefits. There are many benefits of this Surah; Judgment day reward, protection from toil, prevents from nightmare.

Benefits of Reciting Surah Al-Lail

Here are some benefits of reciing Surah Al-lail regularly.

Judgment Day Reward

On the Day of Judgment, all of my followers will enter Paradise. As Ibn Kathir (رحمه الله) related about

Who denies and turns away (92:16)

According to Abu Hurayrah (may God bless him and his family and grant them peace), the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his family) said, “On the Day of Judgment, all of my followers will enter Paradise except for those who refuse.” When the companions asked, “Who would refuse, O Messenger of Allah?” he replied, “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused.” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Protection from toil

When someone recite this chapter, Allah will protects him from toil, and Allah smooths out his path.

In a narration from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his household), it is said:

The one who recites it (Surah Al-Lail) is rewarded so much that he is satisfied, Allah protects him from toil, and Allah smooths out his path. Al-Islam

Saves from Hardship

When someone recites Sura al-Layl, God will provide so much bounty for him that he will be satisfied and save him from hardship.

As in Majma’ al-bayan, the Prophet (s) is quoted as saying that:

“If one recites Sura al-Layl, God will provide so much bounty for him that he will be satisfied and save him from hardship.” Ṭabrisī, Majmaʿ al-bayān, vol. 10, p. 373.

Reward Heaven as Gift

When someone recite surah he will go to heaven. As in al-Shaykh al-Saduq, Imam al-Sadiq (a) said that

if one recites Sura al-Layl during the day or night, his entire body will testify for his good deeds, God will accept their testimonies, and he will go to Heaven.

Prevents from Nightmare

Surah Layl recitation prevents from nightmare. As according to Tafsir al-Burhan,

“The sura can prevent nightmares, cure fever, and revive an epileptic patient if whispered in his ear.” Baḥrānī, al-Burhān fī tafsīr al-Qurʾān, vol. 5, p. 675.

Period of Revelation

Surah Ash-Shams and this Surah resemble each other so closely that they seem to be explanations of each other. Both Surah Ash-Shams and this Surah explain the same thing in different ways. Both of these Surahs were sent down around the same time.

Facts about Surah Al-Lail

In Surah Lail, the 92nd chapter of the Quran, the virtuous believer discusses why he is charitable to attain Allah’s pleasure and what miserliness signifies. It also describes God’s assistance to believers in performing these and other good actions, whereas disbelievers have more difficulty doing them.

Major Issue, Divine Law and Guidance

  • In the case of good people, Allah will facilitate the easy path, and in the case of wicked people, he will facilitate the hard path.

Hadith Benefits

It was narrated that Jabir bin Samurah said

“The Prophet used to recite “By the night as it envelops” in Zuhr, something similar in Asr, and something longer in subh.” Sunan an-Nasa’i 980

Jabir b. samurah said

“The Messenger of Allah offered the noon prayer when the sun was lowering and recited surahs such as “By the night when it covers over” (92) in the afternoon prayer and other prayers beside the dawn prayer (Fajr Prayer).” Sunan Abi Dawud 806
