Surah Al-Yunus

In the Noble Quran, Surah Yunus, which means Jonah, is the tenth Surah. There is a brief mention of Jonah’s story in one of its verses, which is why it is called Yunus. In this Surah, most of the verses were revealed in Mecca, making it a Makki surah. There is also a story about Noah and Moses in this Surah.

There are 109 Ayahs in Surah Yunus and 11 Rukus. This is the 51st chapter according to the Tarteeb e Nuzool and the 10th Surah according to the Tarteeb e Tilawat. There are various arguments to prove the oneness of Allah, the prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), resurrection after death, and reward for good deeds. It is also encouraged that people believe in the Qur’an.

There are lots of benefits to reciting surah Al-Yunus if you recite it you will get aware of what is going on, for easy delivery, and pregnancy, and you will be a favorite person on the day of judgment.

Benefits of Surah Al-Yunus

Aware of What is Going on

The Imam Abu Abdullah Ja’far ibn Muhammad said, “Whoever recites Surah Yunus once every two to three months will not be a part of the ignorant or unaware on the Day of Judgment.

Easy Delivery and Pregnancy

Whoever recites this Surah to a woman who is giving birth with pure intention while paying full attention to Allah, Allah will cause her to have an easy delivery. it also helps in getting pregnant.

One of Favorite Person on the Day of Judgment

Those who recite this Surah twice or three times a year would have no fear of going into the camp of the ignorant (infidels), and Allah would raise them to the group of his favorites on the day of judgment. Whoever recites this Surah will receive the reward mentioned in verse 26:

It is the best reward and more for those who do good. Their faces will not be covered by darkness or ignominy. “They will dwell in the garden forever.”

Will Reward Like the People Who Have Testified Allah

If someone recites Surah Yunus, his reward will equal the number of people who have testified or denied Allah.

Surat Yunus as Detective

The real culprit would not be able to swallow the Surat Yunus if written on a tray or china plate, washed with rose water, kneaded with that water, cooked, and shared with everybody.

Surah Yunus Virtue

In Surah Yunus, Imam Jafar Sadiq (Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) narrates. When Judgment Day comes, whoever recites it once every two to three months will not be counted among the ignorant but will be among the muqarrabeen (close ones). According to Surah Yunus, if a person recites it, they will receive a reward equal to the number of people present in the community of Hazrat Yunus (Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him).

Jonah Was Rewarded Ten Times as Many People Believed in Him or Rejected Him

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said,

“Whoever recites this surah will be rewarded ten times the number of people who believed in or rejected Jonah, as well as the number of those who drowned with the Pharaoh.”

A History of Surah Yunus

Three prophets are described in Surah Yunus:

  • Noah
  • Moses
  • Jonah

The story of Noah begins in verse 71. The story of Moses begins in verse 75. In verse 98 of Surah Yunus, Jonah is briefly mentioned.
