Surah Al-Maun

Al-Ma’un is the 107th Surah of The Quran. In the Qur’an, Surah Maun (Arabic: Surah Al-Ma’un, “Small Kindnesses, Almsgiving, Have You Seen”) has seven ayats. The Surah was reportedly revealed at Mecca and it’s a Makki surah in quran. Islam teaches two fundamental teachings in this Surah: how to pray and what to contribute.

Reciting Surah Maun has several benefits, its benefits include safety from calamities and protection, for closer relationship to Allah, and safety on judgment day.

English Translation

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

  • Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)?
  • Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness),
  • And encourages not the feeding of the indigent.
  • So woe to the worshippers
  • Who are neglectful of their prayers,
  • Those who (want but) to be seen (by men),
  • But refuse (to supply) (even) neighborly needs.

Benefits of Surah Al-Maun

Here are some benefits of Surah Maun:

Provides Protection and Forgiveness

Surah Al-Ma’un provides protection for the reciter. According to an Islamic hadith:

 “if one recites Sura al-Ma’un after the ‘Isha prayer, God will forgive them and protect them until the adhan of the morning prayer.” Baḥrānī, Al-Burhān fī tafsīr al-Qurʾān, vol. 5, p. 767.

God will Accept the Prayer and Fasting

When a reciter, recites surah Maun God will accept the prayer and fasting. Other hadiths state that:

 if one recites Sura al-Ma’un in obligatory and recommended prayers, God will accept the prayer and fasting and no longer inspect it. Ṣadūq, Thawāb al-aʿmāl, p. 126.

For Forgiveness of Sins

The Prophet (peace be on him and his household) is narrated to have said:

Those who recite it will be forgiven their sins and their zakat will be considered paid.

Reward on the Day of Judgment

If someone recite this surah Allah will accept his prayers and will not question him about what he did in his short life. Regarding this chapter, Ja’far bin Muhammad al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said:

Allah will accept someone’s prayers if he recites them in his obligatory and optional prayers and will not question him about what he did in his short life. Al-Islam

Close Relationship with ALLAH

Those who recite this Surah will receive a book of deeds that sits in the right hand of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.).

Moreover, he will be elevated to a high position among the Prophets. Additionally, he will be raised to sixty levels closer to Allah Almighty.

Theft and Enemy Protection

This Surah also guarantees your safety from thieves and enemies. The Surah Al-Maun also protects from enemies.

Cure from Illness

It will assist you in recovering from illness. This Surah will also protect you from insanity. No matter whether this is your first time in Islam or you’re simply looking to improve your health and well-being,

Sixty Sins Forgiven

This Surah will forgive sixty sins to those who recite it. They will also receive sixty rewards.

Furthermore, if they recite this Surah during compulsory prayers, they will attain rank near the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) in the Hereafter.

During the Day of Judgement, reciting Surah Al-Maun will ensure your safety, according to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.).

Hadith on Surah Al-Manu Benefits

Muqatil and al-Kalbi said, This Surah was revealed about al-‘As ibn Wa’il al-Sahmi. And Ibn Jurayj said:

“Abu Sufyan ibn Harb was in the habit of slaughtering two camels every week. On one occasion, an orphan came to him asking him for something. Abu Sufyan responded by hitting him with a stick. And so Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) revealed. (Hadith Asbab Al-Nuzul)

Ibn Kathir related about

Al-Mas’udi narrated from Salamah bin Kuhayl who reported from Abu Al-`Ubaydin, that he asked Ibn Mas’ud about Al-Ma’un, and he said, “It is what the people give to each other, like an axe, a pot, a bucket and similar items.” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Surah Al-Maun Facts

In Surah Maun or Ara’aital Lazhi or al-Din, the 107th chapter of the Quran, the attributes of those who deny Reckoning and the Hereafter are described. Even though this chapter refers to the Prophet, its verses are addressed to all people, and their meanings can be applied to anyone. The verses warn those who are supposedly Muslims but are hypocrites who perform acts that are contrary to their religious beliefs.
